The Nurses Respond Now Priority Equity Training was highlighted as part of the “Nurses Leading Change for Health Equity” webinar hosted by the AARP Center for Health Equity through NursingSM and the Campaign for Action. The webinar featured nurse leaders of programs that received funding through the Health Equity and Nursing Innovations Fund, awarded by AARP and the Future of Nursing: Campaign for Action, an initiative of AARP Foundation, AARP and the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

The Wisconsin Center for Nursing (WCN) received a Health Equity and Nursing Innovation Fund Award for their project “Strengthening a Statewide Volunteer Nurse Corp to Address the Needs of Vulnerable Populations During a Public Health Emergency” which included the training of 175 Wisconsin nurses using the Nurses Respond Now Priority Equity Training.  This project aligned with The Future of Nursing 2020-2030 Report Recommendation #8: Preparing Nurses to Respond to Disasters and Public Health Emergencies.

As the education partner for WCN, National RN Executive Director and WCN Innovation Team Leader, Kelly Kruse Nelles MS RN APRN-BC described the project, discussed the outcomes and promising practices and lessons learned. Nurse leaders from each of the featured programs discussed promising solutions for addressing structural racism and inequity and improving access to care and services for those most disproportionately impacted by health disparities.

The Nurses Respond Now Priority Training is available to nurses from all U.S. states and territories and provides education and training centered on health equity strategies that can improve health outcomes for vulnerable populations during a public health emergency.
